Recently I was reading an article in USA Today news site, about K-12 students’ focus on learning and how it relates to school uniforms. While the article focused on the controversy of uniforms and free speech, I wondered how important uniforms are in the classroom. There are opposing views on the benefits of uniforms in the classroom and therefore no best-fit solution.

So how does this translate to the workplace? I remember in the early ‘90s when casual Fridays became popular and so did the hilarious cartoons about how far employees would go to test the limits of “casual” dress. And I also remember that in my workplace, attitudes also changed on casual Fridays. Although this is not a scientific study, in my experience, the workplaces that required formal business dress also had a more professional atmosphere.
